In Dedication

Brian Chic.

1956-2007

The World of Whip Artistry lost a great performer in 2007 with the passing of consumate commedian, musician, and whip artist, Brian Chic, and therefore wished to dedicate itself to the Brian's memory.

Brian was one of the most talented, giving, and unique whip performers around. His exhuberance, enthusiasm, and undying devotion to the whip arts has inspired many great whip performers today, and he will be sorely missed.

The Society of American Whip Artistry had been a dream of it's founders for some time, but had come into existance a little over a year before Brian's death. Brian was one of the first two, (he and legendary Hollywood stuntman, Alex Green,) honorary members to be inducted into the SAWA.

In his last few months, Brian was very excited about the possibilities that the organization provided, and was planning on involving himself the the growth and development of the SAWA. We were all excited as well to have the opportunity to work with an entertainer, and historian of Brian's caliber.

Less than three months before a SAWA convention that Brian had planned to attend, he was gone, and his absence was sorely felt.

In honor of his memory, the Society of American Whip Artistry Brian Chic Memorial Award was established to recognise a member of the whip arts community who's dedication, passion, and enthusiasm for the whip arts mirrors Brian's own.

On July 28th of 2007, the first ever Brian Chic Memorial Award was presented by Brian's brother, David Chic, to James Nash at the 2007 Annie Oakley Western Arts Showcase and Convention.

An interview with Brian appeared in "Mach 1," the SAWA newsletter, and appears online here, (scroll down to find it.)
